Journalism and press work

We are passionate about writing and spreading the good stories about our wise researchers and talented students who help make a difference. Either through our own channels or through press work.

Team Journalism consists of

Jane Thoning Callesen (head of TEK Communication)
Sebastian Hypolit Wittrock (team coordinator)
Sune Holst

Focusing on the good stories through interesting people, ground-breaking research and everyday life at TEK

We want to tell the good stories about life, research and people at TEK through articles, press releases, video and social media posts.

Our work in the team supports the overall goal of our unit to recruit more engineering students and attract talented teachers and researchers to TEK in Odense and Sønderborg.

We do so through the dissemination of research projects and the results that researchers achieve in the projects. We'll let you know when a researcher attracts the grant, we follow the work along the way, and of course we write about results when the project comes to an end. Initially, it may be easier to communicate the story through the press if the funds are large, but it may also be the subject that determines whether TEK is mentioned based on a project. We write about the researcher and find the story that can be crucial for our talented researchers to be profiled in the media.

In addition to research, we write about life at TEK and the many thousands of students, so you can follow us when we have study start, when the Minister of Education comes to visit, when companies are hunting interns or curious high school students become students for a day.

Our work is based on the general novelty criteria — such as materiality and timeliness, but, above all, also identification, which is expressed not least by SoMe posts on daily events and events on campus. In a few cases, there may also be sensations when we can reveal research that shifts people’s perception of normal.
We do it with words and images, but increasingly also with videos, which are particularly well suited for social media posts that we have prioritised. It can be to reach students on Instagram, their parents and companions on Facebook or our many contacts and collaborators on LinkedIn. We focus on new SoMe channels also through, e.g., TikTok.

We are working to talk about research, people and everyday life at TEK through the press and social media in Denmark, but our goal is also to increasingly reach out internationally, when we have the research results and researchers to gain interest from media abroad.

Besides the internal focus, our team is also behind a newsletter — TEK Update — which is sent out to all employees at TEK six times a year. Here, the dean informs the employees about latest news, we present one or two current news and, as a new feature, we focus on one of the faculty’s many employees in each TEK Update issue.

We are available for press advice, help and sparring about press contact, communication on various channels and dissemination of research and projects.

Contact Sebastian Hypolit Wittrock or Sune Holst if you need help with press and dissemination tasks.
