Additional Information on the Academic Council

An Academic Council is elected at each faculty.

The Academic Council serves to:
• Award PhD and doctorate degrees.
• Recommend to Rector, or the person authorised by him, the composition of expert assessment committees which will assess applicants for academic positions.
• Report to Rector, or the person authorised by him, on the internal distribution of funds.
• Report to Rector, or the person authorised by him, on central, strategic research and educational areas and plans for knowledge exchange.
• Discuss all academic matters of considerable importance for the university.

 

In addition, it is the Academic Council's task to discuss and advise the faculty management on relevant matters for the development, organization and economy for the faculty, including:

• Faculty development and strategy in science, education and exchange of knowledge.
• Faculty distributions to development agreements of the university.
• Faculty organization.
• Faculty quality assurance.
• Economy and budget
• Hiring policies in relation to education and research.
• Physical and social framework for staff and students.
• Student environment and prosperity including renouncements.
• Management decisions.
• The Academic Council are obliged to discuss academic matters presented by Rector.

 

Composition of the Academic Council.

• 5 scientific employees, including 3 of the faculty's academic staff. The chairman is elected among the faculty's academic staff. (election group I)
• 3 technical-administrative employees, who participates in those parts of the meetings, which does not relate to academic matters are included as observers for the remaining matters. (election group II)
• Three representatives are elected by and among the faculty students (election group III)
• The Dean
• A representative for the faculty's study leaders is nominated by the study leaders and appointed by the Dean to participate in the meetings as an observer. 

The members of election group I and the observers serves four years. Members elected in election group III serves two years. Re-election is an option. The Dean provides administrative assistance for the Academic Council which draws up Rules of Procedure for approval by Rector, within the framework of the Standard Rules of Procedure.
