Bereavement leave

According to the maternity agreement you are, from 1 January 2021, entitled to bereavement leave with unemployment benefits for up to 26 weeks if you as a mother, father or adopter lose your child from the 22nd week of pregnancy until the child reaches the age of 18. From 1 April 2021, this will be changed so that you are entitled to full pay during the leave.

Parents who have lost a child earlier than 1 April 2021, and who are on bereavement leave, enter in the extended right to paid leave per 1 April 2021. It is a prerequisite for the right to full pay during bereavement leave that the employer can receive unemployment benefits reimbursement.

You have a duty to notify leave to the employer as soon as possible.

The scheme is administered by Udbetaling Danmark (Public Benefits Administration) and you can find more information and receive guidance about bereavement leave on their website.
