EPICUR

Competence programme in Citizen Science via EPICUR

As part of EPICUR, a competence development programme in Citizen Science is offered for employees at SDU.

The programme is aimed at researchers and lecturers across subject areas as well as employees working with research support, e.g. communication, library tasks, facilitation and fund applications.

Two steps in spring and summer 2026

The programme passes in two parts. First, a flexible online course from 1 April to 31 May. Then a two-day summer school on 23 and 24 June at SDU.

The online course is a blend of readings, videos, and podcasts that allow participants to outline a citizen science project. It provides background and state-of-the-art within citizen science while at the same time bringing the knowledge to practical use.

You can participate as a researcher with your own research project or as a staff member with a case or idea you find interesting to explore.

The summer school allows participant to either expand on their project (case) from the online course or to work on a case of their liking and interest.

The participants will meet and have dialogue with researchers, who have conducted citizen science projects, as well as expand their skills with communication, outreach, co-design, and community building. The format will be interactive and dialogue based.

Participation is free of charge. However, the summer school requires travel and possible accommodation for participants coming from other EPICUR universities, funded by their home university.

How to register

Registration is done via Conference Manager , where you can also find more information about both the course and the summer school. You can choose to participate in one or both.

The deadline for registration is 15 March.

Citizen science is relevant when you want to involve citizens or local communities in research while working systematically with data and quality. It is also an approach that is increasingly in demand by both societal actors and grant providers.

At SDU, citizen science is about creating dialogue between researchers and citizens and promoting social debates based on knowledge and facts. It covers research projects where volunteer citizens collaborate with researchers to answer practical and socially relevant questions.
