Here you can read more about how to deal with injuries, give first aid and find emergency equipment.

At SDU, we want to ensure that our students, staff and guests get the help they need quickly. This is ensured both locally where SDU employees work and in all public areas of the University.

Injury assistance is to be provided in accordance with the units’ local risk assessments and emergency procedure plans, with corresponding access to emergency equipment. Injured persons in the University’s public areas can be helped from the visibly displayed safety points, where first aid kits and defibrillators are available, as per the safety point concept.

Step-by-step first aid

  • Stop the cause, bring victims to safety, stop machines or work processes and disconnect power.

  • Is the person unconscious?

    If yes, then:

    • A: Open airways (‘A’ for airways)
    • B: Check breathing (‘B’ for breathing)
    • C: Check circulation (‘C’ for circulation)

    Use a stable lateral position when an unconscious person is breathing on their own.

  • Start cardiopulmonary resuscitation

    Apply 30 pressures to the chest, in the centre of the sternum, and then blow into their mouth twice. A defibrillator is available at the safety point; see Appendix 3.

    Stop bleeding

    Lay the victim down. Press your thumb into the wound in case of severe arterial bleeding. For all other major bleeding events, lift the bleeding site and apply a tight dressing.

  • Follow the alarm instructions. Meet the ambulance at the entrance and show the way. Be aware of possible access routes for stretchers. Local Technical Services or security personnel can, among other things, guide rescue personnel, support damage limitation, organise barriers, inform security about damage conditions, etc.
