Precurement and Tendering

By far the largest greenhouse gas emissions from SDU are not actually generated at the University, but come from the production, transport and subsequent disposal of the goods and services that we purchase and use in the course of operating the University.

Sustainability therefore played a central role in SDU’s procurement policy for 2020–2022 and has an even more prominent role in the current internal consumption programme for 2023–2026. The consumption programme focuses on climate-friendly behaviour and how to create the best framework for it. It is important to minimise consumption and to be aware that when consumption is necessary, it should preferably be sustainable and circular.

Examples of measures taken in the organisation of procurement

  • The internal commodity exchange
  • Centralised purchasing of common goods by the administration
  • Shared facilities, which includes the optimised use of existing resources and facilities

Did you know that...

in 2022, at SDU we produced 567 tonnes of waste, of which 49% was recycled? By comparison, in 2022, each Danish resident produced 813 kg of household waste.
