SDU IT blocks older login method on Windows computers

To strengthen IT security, SDU IT will block an older login method, NTLM, on Windows computers in the shared area from 8 October 2026.

This strengthens IT security, but it may mean that some computers can no longer access older equipment or systems.

Most employees will not notice any changes. Some SDU services are temporarily exempt while SDU IT moves them to a more secure login method.

This is what the change means for you

If you use an SDU computer to access older equipment or systems, the connection may stop working. This could, for example, be an older NAS or file server at home.

SDU-managed equipment must also use a more secure login method. This ensures that the connection can still be authenticated.

If an SDU service no longer works after the change, contact Servicedesk. SDU IT will then investigate the issue and help find a solution.

Why is SDU IT blocking NTLM?

NTLM is an older authentication protocol with known security vulnerabilities. Therefore, equipment and systems that still use NTLM must be moved to a more secure login method, for example Kerberos.

If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact SDU IT.
