All rooms at SDU have an ØV-number. It indicates the location of the room in relation to a coordinate system laid out over the building mass.
Rooms east and west of a north-south axis located at Campusvej/Tram tracks are indicated by Ø and V, respectively, and a number for 'latitude'.
Then follows a number that indicates 'longitude' in relation to the coordinate system laid out.
Finally, a number is given that indicates the floor the room is on. For example, Auditorium U45 has the number Ø5-603-1, where Ø and 5 are the 'latitude' in relation to Campusvej, 603 is the 'longitude' and 1 is the floor.
Technical Service and SDU IT are the primary users of the ØV-numbers to keep track of the location of facilities, equipment and furniture.
Other employees and students may be asked to provide a room's ØV number for inquiries, while it is always used for labeling moving boxes and furniture during moves to ensure things go to the right place.
The ØV-number is shown on a sign either on the door or next to the door of the room, along with additional information about the room's function, unit name and/or employee name(s).
