SDU’s own reading specialists provide support

SDU's own reading specialists now also provide support in Esbjerg, Kolding and Sønderborg

Where is support offered and by whom?

After SDU won the tender for support for dyslexic students at SDU in the spring, SDU’s own reading and writing specialists will be visiting the campuses in Region Southern Denmark. In the past, support for SDU’s students in Esbjerg, Kolding and Sønderborg was handled by reading specialists from UC SYD, with whom SDU collaborated.

At SDU Slagelse, support is provided by HF and VUC Roskilde. This is because the invitation to tender in the area was structured so that tenderers could only place a bid for the task in their own region.

In addition to providing support for SDU’s own students, SDU's reading specialists also provide support for other higher education programmes in the region, such as the Design School in Kolding and Aalborg University, Esbjerg.

What does the support consist of?

The support for dyslexic students consists of testing, instruction in IT aids as well as study support sessions for, among other things, support for written communication and assignment writing, reading strategies, planning, etc.

SDU also continues to offer support to students with dyscalculia (‘number blindness’) on all campuses. At SDU, there are supervisors who specialise in dyscalculia and can test students for number blindness. In addition to testing, the help may include support sessions with a specialist as well as mentor support.
