How can art create space for conversation in a time of polarisation?

Nordic Humanities Centre and Kunstmuseum Brandts invite you to an exciting conversation about Inuuteq Storch’s photographic practice, its artistic context and wider significance. Storch, who exhibited his work at the Danish Pavillion at the Venice Biennale 2024, has emerged as a central voice in Greenlandic contemporary art.

His works combine personal archives and analogue photography with a keen awareness of colonial heritage, identity and belonging. In a world where social and political divisions are becoming increasingly apparent, Storch’s images offer a nuanced, affective perspective at everyday life in Greenland, or Kalaallit Nunaat - far from stereotypes and quick digital narratives.

At the event, Louise Wolthers, head of research and curator at the Hasselblad Foundation, Gry Lind Merrild, PhD student at Aarhus University focusing on contemporary art from Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland), Svea Bräunert, art historian and visual culture researcher (currently professor for digital culture at University of Bonn), and Kathrin Maurer, professor of culture and technology at the University of Southern Denmark, will discuss Storch’s art in relation to issues of polarization, decolonization, and global awareness.

The conversation will give the audience the opportunity to reflect on how art can create connections across geographical and cultural distance and photography’s role of resistance

The event will be held in English and you can attend for free.
