Admissions to HEALTH programmes
Strong applicant numbers for HEALTH programmes – especially in Esbjerg
The Faculty of Health Sciences at SDU can this year take pride in stable and, overall, impressive application numbers. The health sciences programmes have seen a total increase of nine percent in admission offers – thanks in part to strong interest in the new psychology programme in Esbjerg.
– It’s very encouraging to see so many applicants heading west. We already knew there was strong national interest in studying psychology, but this is an important step towards meeting the need for more psychologists in the local area, says Head of Education and Secretariat Merete Munk.
Setting aside Esbjerg’s impressive growth, application patterns for most of the other programmes resemble last year’s trends. Public Health Science, Audiology, and Sports Science and Health have landed at roughly the same levels as in the 2024 admissions, though Sports Science and Health does stand out slightly.
The programme received a high number of first-priority applications and had therefore hoped for a slight increase, but instead had to settle for maintaining the same level as last year.
– We’re still satisfied with the intake, but we are now looking into what happened to the applicants who listed us as their first choice. Based on what I can see, my assumption is that it’s because the applicants either didn’t pass – or didn’t show up for – the unit test, says programme director Annemari Svendsen. She adds that it doesn’t appear to be related to the 'grade requirement 7'.
There are also signs of development in SUND’s Master’s programmes – particularly among the part-time Master’s students. Here, the number of applicants continues to grow, driven by both the Clinical Nursing programme and the strong partnerships the faculty has established with regional hospitals and the healthcare sector in Greenland.
However, the current numbers are not final. Applicants who received an admission offer in the so-called second round have until Friday to respond, and the total intake won’t be finalised until 1 October.
