Researchers in the humanities and social sciences generate valuable knowledge with the potential to benefit organizations, professionals, citizens, industry and more. Yet identifying the right application and translating research into accessible tools, services, and solutions can be challenging.

This programme explores how AI can support the journey from research insight to implementable digital products for users beyond academia. Through a combination of practical exercises and guided development, participants will learn how to identify opportunities within their own research, explore potential users and formats and develop their own early-stage concept or prototype.

Whether you already have a specific idea or are simply curious about how your research can be applied in practice, this programme offers a structured approach. No prior experience with AI or coding is necessary, although basic familiarity with AI is encouraged.

About the programme

The programme consists of two connected sessions:

Session 1: Introduction to AI for product development (22 September 9:00-11:30)

The first session introduces participants to digital product development using AI and explores how research can be translated into different digital formats. This session includes:

  • Introduction to AI tools (Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini) relevant for product development
  • Exploration of digital formats such as web apps, chatbots, podcasts, presentations, videos, and infographics.
  • Techniques for idea generation, opportunity discovery and concept development through prompt engineering
  • Introduction to a structured framework that participants can follow independently when developing future products, services or solutions.
  • Guidance on responsible use of AI, including SDU policies, ethical considerations and best practices

Session 2: Developing concepts and digital prototypes (1 October 9:00-12:00)

The second session focuses on applying AI tools and development framework to participants’ own research. Working both independently and with guidance from facilitators, participants will:

  • Identify areas of their research suitable for digital products, services or solutions
  • Define target audiences beyond the university and explore their needs
  • Develop and refine concepts using AI tools
  • Create an early-stage digital prototype for a tool, service, or solution based on their own research
  • Receive feedback from peers and facilitators to strengthen further development
  • Gain an overview of how SDU RIO can support the next steps in the development process

What will you gain?

After completing the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and assess opportunities to translate their research into digital products, services and solutions that create value beyond academia
  • Understand AI tools (Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini) and prompting techniques to explore, develop and refine research-based digital products, services or solutions
  • Develop early-stage digital prototypes or concepts (e.g. video, presentations, web apps, chatbots, podcasts) for defined target audiences in organizations, society or industry

Participants will leave the programme with:

  • An early-stage digital prototype or concept based on their own research
  • A portfolio of potential product, service or solution ideas
  • A reusable framework for AI-powered product development from research
  • An overview of relevant support, funding and commercialization opportunities at SDU
