TIPS FOR RESEARCHERS

The library invites you to the Ph.D. café, where Ph.D. students can get "brutally honest answers to the really hard questions," as organizer and research librarian Thea Marie Drachen puts it. 

Susanna and Anders will talk about daily life as a Ph.D. student, motivation, funding, networking, and much more. They are happy to answer both practical questions and the more existential thoughts that a Ph.D. journey can open up.

Philoteket

 s an area in the library at campus Odense, dedicated to PhD students.

"We know from a wide range of studies that many PhD students struggle with stress and loneliness. They are temporarily employed and often work on projects where they have very little contact with their fellow PhD students. Our aim with Philoteket is to create a physical space and some social and academic events that in various ways support SDU's PhD students through the PhD process," says Leander Møller Gøttcke, research librarian and responsible for Philoteket.

The library regularly organizes so-called PhD cafes with presentations that address various aspects of life as a PhD student. The PhD cafe "From Dry Theory to Captivating Communication - Tell About Your Research So People Listen and Want More" was held in February with a visit from journalist Signe Tonsberg

 In addition to all SDU's PhD students having the opportunity to book Philoteket, it is continuously used by PAUSD - PhD Association at SDU, for academic events, general assemblies, and various social initiatives.

In Philoteket, there are two large screens and space for approximately 35 attendees at presentations, various furnishings, and a closed kitchen area where coffee and tea can be brewed for events - access to the kitchen is granted with the employee card.
