From initial contact to completed practice activity

What type of practical activity makes the most sense for you, your course, and the students?

Should it be a guest lecture? A case for the students to solve? A visit to a local company?

Maybe you have already decided what it should be – maybe you need inspiration and sparring. We are very happy to provide that.

A good match between your course and the external organization is a prerequisite for ending up with a good practical activity. We can help you with that match.

Should it be a large or small company? Local or international? Private or public? We guide you to define the search criteria, and then we start to:

• Review your own network.
• Review our network.
• Cultivate new networks.

At SDU RIO, we have built up a large network of private companies and public organizations over many years, which we can leverage when finding the right external organization for your course. Some are official business partners, others we "just" have a good collaboration with.

If we do not find the right match in your or our existing network, we are happy to reach out and establish relationships with new organizations.

For many university instructors, collaborating with an external organization is more or less uncharted territory. Therefore, we also offer to facilitate the collaboration process to the extent you need.

In facilitating the collaboration process, we support both you and the representative from the external organization in having a good experience and good conditions for fulfilling your collaboration wishes. We do this through facilitating:

• Initial contact and expectation alignment
• Meetings and preparation for the execution of the practical activity
• Evaluation and follow-up together with the company
• Discussion of the potential for further collaboration

How much the collaboration process will involve depends both on the type of practical activity and your needs for expectation alignment, knowledge exchange, and coordination. We naturally adapt our support and the process to your needs.

Sometimes a practical activity suggests working with multiple elements in a course. For example, it may be beneficial to consider and possibly adjust:

• Teaching method
• Students' homework
• Linking practical activity and exam
• Course description changes

Here too, we have a back catalog of examples, materials, and templates that you can draw inspiration from.

After the practical activity has been held, it may make sense to evaluate both with the students and the external organization. It may also make sense to look at whether there is potential to continue the collaboration either on the same course or other courses.
