What do we do when researchers and citizens disagree about what the actual problem is? And how can we involve students without turning patients into ‘learning material’?
These are some of the real-life dilemmas we will explore in an interactive workshop with Fleur Froeling and Saskia te Velde from HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht.
The workshop is based on DilemmaGame, in which researchers, healthcare professionals, policy actors, patients, citizens and patient organisations work with realistic ethical and practical dilemmas from health research. The dilemmas address topics including genuine user ownership in co-created research, payment for users’ contributions, health behaviour and social inequality, and the involvement of students in Citizen Science projects.
The aim is not to find one right answer. Instead, participants will explore the different values, considerations and power dynamics that arise when research is developed with others – and work together to test possible solutions that can strengthen the relevance and implementation of research, as well as its impact on policy and practice.
Fleur and Saskia both have extensive experience of user involvement/Citizen Science, co-creation and health research conducted in close collaboration with citizens and practitioners. Fleur’s work focuses particularly on citizen involvement and co-created research, while Saskia has many years of experience in health promotion, interventions and implementation.
The event, which will be held in English, takes place on Tuesday, 6 October, from 13:00 to 15:00:
