A lot is happening as we return to work
The offices are buzzing, and with a strategy seminar, an award ceremony, and summer schools underway, activity levels are already high ahead of the start of the semester.

We are well underway after the summer break, and there is plenty of activity across the faculty as we approach the start of the academic year. The offices are buzzing with life once again, and the past few weeks have included celebrations, summer schools, and preparations to welcome new students.
Last week, we celebrated our award-winning colleagues. A sincere thank you for the strong support of the event, which we would very much like to repeat next year, hopefully with even more participants. At the same time, a number of summer schools are taking place, and many international students and guests are contributing to the high level of activity. This week, we are also welcoming the Danish Minister of Business and Competitiveness in connection with the Niels Bohr Quantum Summer School.
Next week, we will welcome the many students who have chosen to study science. Despite a declining youth population, the Faculty of Science has maintained the same overall intake as last year, thanks in no small part to the strong enrolment of bachelor’s students in Vejle.
Vejle also provided the setting this week for the management team’s annual strategy seminar, where we were given a tour of the new facilities and discussed the Faculty of Science’s strategy in relation to the wider world. The seminar focused on several major societal agendas in which science is playing an increasingly important role: artificial intelligence, quantum technology, the green transition, life science, biodiversity, and the education of future STEM talent.
The discussions confirmed that the Faculty of Science is strongly positioned in areas where research and education of the highest international quality can be translated into societal value through collaboration with companies, public authorities, hospitals, and international partners.
A special thank you to Davide Taibi and Valentina Lenarduzzi, our LEGO® Chair professors, for sharing their academic perspectives and showing us around the new facilities. It was inspiring to hear about their visions for research and education in Vejle, and about the close dialogue already underway with local companies on AI and digitalisation.
I look forward to following the continued development of SDU Vejle and to working together with researchers, students, companies, and public-sector partners to strengthen the contribution of science to solutions for some of the greatest challenges we face.
