Join us for Open Research Day 2025. Here, you’ll get insight into the latest trends in health research – and the chance to see PhD students compete to communicate complex topics in this year’s PhD Cup.
The Faculty of Health Sciences and the Region of Southern Denmark invite you to Open Research Day on Wednesday 26 November 2025 from 8:00 to 15:15 at Comwell Middelfart.
What is Open Research Day?
Open Research Day is a joint event organised by the University of Southern Denmark and the Region of Southern Denmark. Here, you can either present your own research or be inspired by the work of others. The day also offers an overview of new trends in health research – both in Denmark and internationally.
The event is open to all researchers, regardless of experience. – Whether you're a PhD student just starting out or a seasoned professor, you're more than welcome.
The day includes:
A keynote lecture
Professor, Britt Borregaard, Klinisk Institut og Forskningsenhed for Kardiologi (OUH): Shaping your research career – strategic choices and lessons learned along the way
The traditional PhD Cup
PhD students compete to present their research in a clear and engaging way. Communications advisor Bent Nørgaard – known from events such as the Research Grand Prix – will guide the audience and participants through the competition. The winner will be selected by both a panel of expert judges and the audience. The winner will receive a prize of DKK 10,000.
It is the heads of department who nominate participants for the PhD Cup.
Abstract sessions
Researchers present their results in smaller groups led by a chair. The sessions will be organised based on submitted abstracts and grouped under the following themes:
- Translational research
- Cross-sectoral research
- Clinical research
- Prevention and health promotion
- Patient and relative involvement in research
Each presentation lasts 10 minutes and is delivered as an oral presentation.

When registering with an abstract, your presentation must be submitted no later than 17 November.

- Send your presentation to Sidsel Bangsgaard Skovgaard: sbs@rsyd.dk
- Presentations must be oral and supported by visual aids such as PowerPoint.
- Each presentation must not exceed 10 minutes.
- You may choose to present in either Danish or English.
