Current Gender Equality Activities:

  1. An overview of career opportunities and expectations for VIP (Very Important Positions) roles, categorized by career stages, has been developed and is now available on the institute's website.
  2. Offensive behavior has been selected as a focus area for the years 2021-2024. A themed day was conducted in spring 2023, and the topic has been addressed in research units subsequently. A follow-up day is planned for fall 2023, where some research units will present their work. Additionally, a special Occupational Health and Safety Assessment (APV) has been carried out for Ph.D. students, likely to be repeated in connection with the upcoming SDU APV.
  3. A mentorship program for bachelor students has been developed and initiated.
  4. A mentorship program for master's students on the research track has been developed and initiated.

Previous Activities:

Derived from KI and OUH's research strategy – focus on inclusive job postings, a goal of a career index less than 1.3, and a goal of greater diversity in terms of professional background in research units.

Current Gender Equality Activity:

Based on our examination of unwanted sexual attention (GEP 1) and diversity and career pathways, including pathways into the SIF (GEP 2), we have formed a working group comprising representatives from LiU (Linköping University), the management team, as well as AMR (Employee Representative), TR (Shop Steward), and HR. This group is currently developing personnel policies for the specific work areas within the institute.

The collaborative efforts across functions aim to ensure the integration and dissemination of these initiatives. In the long term, we plan to focus on internal communication, offer specific guidance in recruitment processes and career pathways, and incorporate gender equality considerations into grant applications.

Previous Activities:

Completion of GEP 1 and 2, initially involving:

1. Investigation of unwanted sexual attention through a survey on occurrence and handling at the institute, along with feedback gathered at institute meetings.

2. Career paths at SIF: Qualitative exploration among a subset of employees regarding their recruitment and career paths at SIF, perceived opportunities, as well as general diversity and personnel composition at the institute.

Gender Equality Team

SDU is the sole Danish university to establish a Gender Equality Team (GET), dedicated to fostering a diverse workplace with an innovative and creative research environment, along with an inclusive working atmosphere.

GET will play a key role in developing and implementing gender equality initiatives, including the implementation of Gender Equality Plans across all five faculties. These initiatives are designed to ensure that SDU increasingly attracts and retains a diverse range of talents.

Gender Equality Plans Implementation

As part of the Gender Equality Plans implementation, a critical friend meeting is convened biennially. During this meeting, institutes present the progress of their efforts in diversity and gender equality. Participants include the dean, the heads of departments, representatives from The Gender Equality Council at the Faculty of Health Sciences, a representative from GET, and a critical friend from another faculty.
