Teacher of the Year and the recipient of the 2022 Innovation Prize are from IMADA

Last Friday, the winners of this year’s Faculty of Science awards were revealed. This year, two researchers from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science received an award for their work at the faculty over the past year.

The award ceremony took place during the faculty’s summer party, which also included solving puzzles and defusing bombs, shooting tanks, sporting tuxedos and dresses, as beards and blue spy glasses set the scene for the party programme.

This year, two scientists from IMADA were among the award winners. Meet Teacher of the Year and the recipient of the 2022 Innovation Prize.

Teacher of the Year 2022

Associate Professor Lene Monrad Favrholdt is Teacher of the Year at the Faculty of Science.

In connection with the award ceremony, Dean Marianne Holmer justified the choice with the following emphasis:

Lene Monrad Favrholdt is a computer scientist and teaches, among other things, introductory courses on the bachelor’s programs in mathematics and computer science.

Lene has repeatedly received high praise from the students for her teaching, not least during the time when the teaching has taken place wholly or partly online. Lene knows her stuff: she has a solid and impressive knowledge of her subject and the ability to make the complex material understandable. The students describe Lene's didactic approach as elegant, intuitive, listening, welcoming and entertaining.

Lene’s colleagues have been surprised to see her walking towards the classroom with two laptops and an extra screen. Lene explains that this ensures that she can have full attention on the students in the room, but at the same time immediately sees questions in the form of chat messages from students who, due to corona symptoms or vulnerability, have had to participate via zoom.

The Faculty of Science Teaching Prize is awarded each year to one employee who has excelled at motivational and committed teaching of the highest quality. In accordance with tradition, Lene Monrad Favrholdt was nominated by her students.

Congratulations Lene!

Innovation Prize 2022

Associate Professor Jacopo Mauro receives the Innovation Prize 2022. Dean Marianne Holmer justified the choice with the following words:

You have been nominated by IMADA, for the Innovation Award for your work with the startup company QuasiOS – and you have won the price at the Faculty.

This company was started by three graduate students at the computer science study who dreamed of developing a safe control system for robots.

You have supported the company in its early start-up phase by securing funds for it from the Danish Hub for Cybersecurity, after which the company succeeded in attracting an Innobooster grant to continue developing its product.

Jacopo has always been an anchor at the institute for the company, giving them sparring and, among other things, facilitating a larger presentation of the company’s work in which, among others, Universal Robots participated.

Congratulations on the award and I hope you will continue your work with QuasiOS, but also with other students and give them the opportunity to pursue their ideas and possible dreams of starting their own business.

There is a great need in society for more knowledge and new research within cybersecurity.

Each year, the Innovation Prize at the Faculty of Science is awarded to one employee who has brought SDU’s knowledge within education or research into play in a completely new and innovative way, and who has created value for and together with society.

Congratulations Jacopo!
