Use corridor names when giving directions

Technical Services’ project on signage and directions at Campus Odense has been completed. The aim of the project was to make the signage at entrances and corridors clearer to make it easier to find your way around Campus Odense.

By Technical Services, , 4/14/2023

A clear path network

The core of our solution is a clarification of the original 'path network' combined with the corners of the world, so that it can be used more effectively to find out where you are and how to reach your destination.

The path network consists of the north-south corridors Gydehutten and Stenten, and the east-west intersecting corridors Knoldene, Krogene, Bøgene, Lysningen, Agrene and Vangene.

Soon, the buildings that will house the Faculty of Health Sciences will be operational and more names will be added: the main north-south corridor Aksen and the adjoining east-west corridors Skoven, Marken, Tveden, Toften and Forten.

Use the corridor names

Now that the project has been completed, we again encourage you to take advantage of the clearer path network and use the names of entrances and corridors whenever you have to direct somebody to a meeting room, a classroom, a service function, an office or a department.

With this information, it will be easier for people to make a link to the maps and signs at and around Campus Odense that will help show them the way.

The project has delivered the following:

  • Stands with maps and manicule (pointing finger) signs pointing to the entrances, which are located around the Campus along paths and at parking areas and bus stops.
  • New maps reflecting the naming of corridors and entrances that help you figure out your location and how to reach your destination.
  • Signs above all of the entrance doors, named after the main corridors they lead into and indicating which side of the campus you are on.
  • Marking of corridor names inside the building, with signs above the doors to the corridors.
  • You will find compasses marked on the floors where the corridors intersect, indicating names of corridors and showing directions.
  • Signage at the stairwells in the main corridors, indicating which corridor you are on, and pointing to teaching and meeting rooms, etc. on the levels above and below.
  • Hanging signs and foils on the doors on the major corridors leading to the side corridors, indicating departments, teaching and meeting rooms.
  • Replacement of the blue signs outside classrooms and other rooms with black signs with white text so that they follow the applicable design manual.

Signage adapted to the new solution

Throughout the process, we have been tidying up. We have removed outdated signs and local sign solutions so that the new signs and the overall consistency of the new solution are visible and do not get lost in forests of old signs and other design logics.

If you require any corrections to signs or need additional signage, please contact Technical Services via 8888@sdu.dk. We will work together to find solutions that fit in with the other signage and directions for the benefit of visitors, students and staff who use Campus Odense.
