SDU IT wish you a safe and enjoyable summer

Dear colleague, The summer holidays are approaching fast and as you may be planning to travel abroad during the holiday period, we would like to remind you of the importance of safe digital behaviour, especially when using your SDU computer. We want to ensure that your data and personal information remain protected wherever you are.

Here are some important guidelines and points of attention:

  • Before you leave the office, please make sure to update all software on your SDU computer, including the operating system and other important applications. Updates help close security gaps and protect against known threats. By doing this before you leave the office, you minimise the risk of unnecessary internet data usage abroad, which can be costly in some cases.
  • When travelling abroad, you may be asked for identity verification more often than usual. This happens automatically in the event of behaviour changes. Please note that you only have to verify your identity if you actively want to log in to a system. If you see the MFA window without being about to log into a system, be sceptical.

  • When you are connected to a wireless network outside SDU's secured network, you should always use VPN. SDU's VPN is automatically activated and connected, but it is possible to disconnect manually - we do not recommend this. VPN ensures encrypted communication between your computer and SDU's network and systems and protects you against potential attacks or monitoring of your data.

  • Avoid logging into sensitive accounts, such as bank accounts or SDU accounts, when connected to public Wi-Fi networks such as cafés, airports or hotels. These networks are often less secure and can potentially put your data at risk. When in doubt, use your mobile hotspot. However, be aware that it can be costly and should only be used for short periods of time and not for streaming movies, for example.
  • Pay extra attention to suspicious emails, links and attachments, especially when you are outside SDU’s network. Avoid clicking on unfamiliar links or downloading files from untrusted sources as they may contain malware or attempt to intercept your login details.
  • Only switch on roaming on your mobile phone when you need it. We also encourage you to do this on your private mobile subscription to avoid unintended usage. Read about SDU's subscription here.
  • To give you additional control and security over your SDU account, we have implemented a Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) solution. SSPR allows you to reset your password, restore access to your account and ensure you can continue working without undue delay. It is important that you have updated your registered alternative email address and mobile phone number in our system so that you can use SSPR seamlessly if the need arises.   • Over the past years and still today, we customise your SDU computer to ensure good, safe and optimal use. The safest thing to do is always to use your work computer to access SDU’s systems, including email. It also gives you the best experience when travelling abroad without visible identity validation.

We wish you a safe and enjoyable summer holiday! Also, please remember that it’s important to find a balance between work and relaxation. Take the time to switch off your computer, put work aside and really enjoy your well-deserved holiday. Use this time to recharge, spend time with family and friends and create memories that will last a lifetime.
