Smoking

New smoking policy adopted at the University of Southern Denmark

New principles regarding smoking and tobacco use on the University of Southern Denmark’s premises have been approved and adopted by the Rectorate, and smoking cessation courses are being offered to employees who want help to quit.

The Rectorate has approved new principles targeting smoking and tobacco use at SDU. The use of tobacco products (smoking tobacco and vaping) is still not permitted indoors on SDU’s premises.

In addition, the following applies:

  • Smoking and vaping are restricted to the outdoor smoking sheds.
  • Waste from outdoor smoking and tobacco use must be placed in ashtrays or rubbish bins

The University of Southern Denmark’s regional anchoring and geographical distribution means that different restrictions apply in the campus cities, as SDU follows the smoking and tobacco use policies of the neighbouring educational institutions.

  •  At Campus Esbjerg and Campus Kolding, the same rules apply as at UC Syd. This means that all tobacco products are banned indoors and outdoors (nicotine gum is permitted).
  • At Campus Sønderborg, SDU’s rules apply, as Alsion does not have rules regarding tobacco use. This means that it is not permitted to use tobacco products indoors.
  • Campus Slagelse follows the same rules as Absalon. This means that smoking (including e-cigarettes) is not permitted on the premises.

Help to quit smoking

SDU supports employees who wish to quit smoking, and as an employer the University offers smoking cessation courses via the municipality. Read more here: https://sdunet.dk/en/servicesider/hr/ansaettelsesforhold/personalegoder_og_tilbud/rygestopkurser

These principles have also been incorporated into the personnel policy guidelines for employees at the University of Southern Denmark. They can be found (in Danish) on SDUnet: https://sdunet.dk/da/servicesider/hr/ansaettelsesforhold/personalepolitik
