News on special holiday allowance and senior bonus
From this year, the timing of payment of special holiday allowance will change and the Senior Bonus Circular came into force on 1 April 2022.

Payment of special holiday allowance
Special holiday allowance in the state (which for many years has been paid out together with April pay) of 1.5% is granted in addition to normal pay during the taking of holiday. The allowance replaces the holiday allowance of 1% under the Danish Holiday Act.
From 2022, the special holiday allowance will be paid out twice a year. The first payment in the current leave year will be made at the end of May 2022 and will cover the period from 1 September 2021 to 31 May 2022.
The special holiday allowance for the period 1 June 2022 to 31 August 2022 will be paid out together with the salary payment at the end of August 2022.
Senior bonus
Through the state’s payroll system, SDU has implemented an ongoing calculation of 0.8% of the fixed foreseeable salary for monthly salaried earners who turn at least 62 in 2022.
The ongoing accrual is summarised in a fixed field on one’s payslip each month. It was first visible on the payslip at the end of January 2022.
The bonus will be paid out automatically for everyone in January 2023.
If the employee resigns before then, the earned amount will automatically be paid in cash upon resignation after deduction of tax deducted from income at source (A-skat) and labour market contributions (AM-bidrag).
The employee can choose to convert the amount into pension contributions or to hold two senior days, which the employee must decide on no later than 1 October 2022.
SDU HR will return in the spring with more details for employees on how to make such requests through Oracle HCM (SDU’s HR system) or otherwise.
