MedTech Odense
Twenty projects are the first to receive IDEA and CONCEPT funding from MedTech Odense
New opportunities to apply for funding in 2026.
Earlier this year when MedTech Odense opened their first call for nascent ideas and projects with the potential to create breakthroughs in healthcare technology, there was no shortage of applications.
An internal panel of experts in the relevant fields assessed a total of 43 applications from a broad range of researchers and healthcare professionals. MedTech Odense has issued grant award letters to twenty applicants, including:
- 10 recipients of up to DKK 150,000 for IDEA
- 10 recipients of up to DKK 400,000 for CONCEPT
From artificial intelligence to creating networks
The projects cover a wide range of topics: from the use of artificial intelligence to aid in the investigation, diagnosis and prediction in areas such as bone fractures, diseases of the uterine cavity, urinary tract disorders and lung diseases to ultrasound robots, wound care and network building for legal specialists to leverage innovation and introduce new technological solutions in healthcare.;

Pilot calls in 2025 – new calls to follow in 2026
MedTech Odense’s first pilot calls in 2025 featured two different types of calls – IDEA and CONCEPT – which both targeted early-stage ideas and projects. The funds are intended to be stepping stones to mature and develop specific ideas, solutions and collaborations across disciplines and stakeholders, and to bring projects one step further along the path from idea to clinic to market.
In 2026, DKK 20 million is also earmarked to boost the medtech area, and more funds are expected in the coming years. 2026 is expected to offer new opportunities for mature projects in addition to funding for early ideas. The many lessons learnt and the feedback from the 2025 pilot calls are currently being processed.
Dates for the 2026 calls will be announced as soon as possible.
The process
All applications were judged based on an overall assessment of three overall criteria and scored from 1–6 in the following categories:
- Quality and originality of the project
- Expected impact of the project
- Implementation and continuation of the activity.
A total of DKK 5,419,244 has been awarded. Excess funds will be transferred to 2026.
IDEA: The applications were evaluated by an internal assessment committee consisting of experts with experience in commercialisation, research, clinical work and research support. Following this, the management of MedTech Odense made a decision in consultation with the committee. Seventeen applications were received, 8 grants and 2 conditional grants were awarded, and 7 grants were rejected.
CONCEPT: The applications were assessed by an internal assessment committee of researchers, research experts and a broad range of healthcare professionals. The committee members were assigned applications based on their professional competences and with consideration for possible conflicts of interest. Twenty-six applications for CONCEPT funding were received, each of which was individually assessed by three assessors. The 12 applicants with the highest scoring applications were asked to pitch their projects in front of the steering committee for MedTech Odense. The steering committee awarded 8 full grants and 2 conditional grants and issued 16 rejections on the basis on an overall evaluation of the assessments, the pitches, how the projects matched with MedTech Odense and the budget items of the individual projects etc.
