SDU has signed the (CoARA) Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment in November 2022, support its general recommendation, and in 2025 has drafted the SDU CoARA Action Plan to describe how these recommendations will be implemented.
SDU agrees that the assessment of research, researchers and research organizations must recognize the diversity of outputs, practices and activities that maximizes the quality and impact of research – and that this requires basing assessment primarily on qualitative judgement, for which peer-review is central, supported by responsible use of quantitative indicators.
To that end, SDU works towards the development of criteria to monitor and reward researchers who practice Open Science (e.g., publishing Open Access, making their data FAIR, communicating their results openly to the world), through the adoption of a newly developed indicator called the OADO (Open Access, Data and Outreach) indicator, and by introducing the annual SDU Open Science Champion Awards (read more about the 2025 champions here).
