  All classrooms at SDU are equipped with AV equipment that supports a good learning experience:

  • Image projection: Projector or one to several screens 
  • Sound: Built-in speakers in all rooms
  • Microphones: Available in rooms
  • Connectivity: HDMI input and at least three adapters
    HDMI-USB-C HDMI-Mini DisplayPort and HDMI-DisplayPort.

• Data storage solutions and collaboration platforms

  SDU Digital offers several digital collaboration platforms that support the sharing of documents, folders, images and datasets.
  
  The choice of platform depends on who you need to collaborate with, what you need to share, and what requirements there are for data security and size. Below is an overview of the most commonly used platforms and their purpose.

  • Teams

    Teams is recommended for sharing multiple documents, folders and images with a larger group. Teams can be used for chat, online meetings, telephony and project collaboration at SDU:

    • Telephony: With an SDU account you can make and receive calls via Teams to both internal and external contacts. Teams telephony can be used on both computer (app or browser) and smartphone (Teams app) and requires no special phone setup.

    • Video meetings: Teams can be used for online meetings with colleagues and external collaborators. You can schedule, join and share content directly from the app or browser.

    • Collaboration: Teams is ideal for project collaboration. You can create a team for a project where documents, chats, meetings and collaboration are all in one place. This makes it easy to work with multiple stakeholders and keep an overview. 

    Tip: Always make at least one colleague a co-owner of the team. If you leave SDU and there are no other owners, the team will be deleted when your account is closed.

    Note: Teams should not be used for sharing sensitive personal data.

  • SharePoint

    SharePoint is ideal for structured collaboration with many documents and folders, such as collaboration between multiple departments or projects.

  • OneDrive - Personal drive

    OneDrive is your personal network drive where only you have access to your files. You can share individual files with others or a few colleagues. If you need to share many files or folders with colleagues or external collaborators, you should use Microsoft Teams or SharePoint instead.How to access

    OneDrive provides easy access to your files from different devices. You can access OneDrive in several ways: 

    • Via browser: http://office.com/onedrive.
    • On Window-computere: Via Explorer.
    • On Mac-computere: Via Finder.
    • Via OneDrive-appen on your smartphone.

    Storing and deleting data

    You have 1 TB of storage space available and your data is stored securely in Microsoft's cloud. If you delete files, they will remain in the Recycle Bin for 90 days, after which they are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
    
    When you leave SDU, your OneDrive account will be closed and all files will be deleted - including files you may have shared with others. Via a browser, you can get a quick overview of which files you have shared.

  • NextCloud - Large datasets

    NextCloud is ideal for storing large data sets, especially for research projects.

    NextCloud is SDU's own cloud-based storage service and works in the same way as OneDrive.

    The advantage of using NextCloud is that all data is stored and backed up internally at SDU, providing a high degree of security. In addition, you can share files securely with colleagues at SDU.

    Note: If you share sensitive personal information, you must always comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

    UCloud is suitable for storing large datasets or sensitive data for research purposes.

  • Approval and ordering

    It is the head of section who assesses whether the individual employee needs a home connection paid for by SDU. The cost is covered by the relevant department or division (EAN number must be stated). In the Central Administration, it is SDU IT that covers the cost.
    
    SDU has an agreement with Nordlys via the SKI agreement. SDU IT helps with creation, cancellation and contact to Norlys in case of technical problems or questions.

    You can check which options (fibre, coax or 5G) can be delivered to your address via tjekditnet.dk.
    

    Ordering or changes

    If you need to order or make changes to a home connection paid for by SDU, you can do so via service.sdu.dk, where you enter your home address and any installation number.

  • Internet solutions

    SDU offers internet via fibre, coax or 5G - depending on what Norlys can deliver to your address.

    The standard solution is 100 Mbit, which SDU pays for.

    A wired connection (fibre or coax) is typically the most stable. 5G can be a solution where there is no cable.

  • Price

    SDU pays for a standard connection of 100 Mbit via the SKI agreement.

  • Additional purchases

    SDU only pays for the internet connection.

    You can purchase yourself:
    

    • higher speed
    • extra equipment (e.g. Wi-Fi devices)
    • tv or other services

  General remarks

  A 100 Mbit connection usually covers both work and general home use.

  If you need a higher speed, you can purchase it privately.

  Internet options depend on your address and are constantly evolving.

• IT equipment

  If you need to replace your computer or other IT accessories with new ones, you can visit SDU IT's webshop.

  The webshop is available to everyone. To see the prices of the items and complete your order, you need to be logged in with your normal SDU login.
  

  All orders are still processed manually by our experienced buyers and completed in eOrders with the necessary approvals in TrueTrade.

  • Windows computer

    SDU IT offers Windows computers for office use, teaching and research. All computers come with a basic Windows operating system and a number of security measures, including:

    • BIOS password
    • Disc encryption
    • Malware protection
    • Continuous software and security update systems.

    These measures ensure that the computer is reliable and data secure - both on SDU's network and when used outside SDU's locations. When the computer is switched on, it automatically connects to SDU's network via VPN. The computer is configured to work seamlessly with SDU systems and to securely handle SDU data.
    
    In addition, it is installed:

    • Microsoft 365.
    • Software Centre, from which you can install approved software.
    • Eduroam connection so the computer can access wireless networks at other institutions that support Eduroam.

    Note: On Windows computers from SDU, the user does not have permanent local administrator access. Software installation must therefore be done via the Software Centre. If the desired software is not found in the Software Centre, you can contact SDU IT. Find contact information at the bottom of the page.

  • Mac computer

    SDU IT offers Mac computers for use in both office environments, teaching and research. All Mac computers come with macOS and are prepared with a number of basic security settings, including:

    • Firmware password
    • Disc encryption
    • Malware protection
    • Automatic software updates.

    These settings ensure that you receive a well-functioning and secure Mac that can be used both inside and outside SDU. The Mac is configured to access and work with SDU's systems and data.

    In addition, it is installed:

    • Microsoft 365.
    • Software Centre, from where you can install approved software.

    
    

  • IT equipment for laboratories

    SDU IT provides and operates specialised laboratory workstations when standard SDU computers are not sufficient for research purposes.

    • Platforms: Solutions based on Windows or Linux, depending on research needs and instrument requirements. 
    • Location: The equipment is established in the desired laboratory at SDU. 
    • Purpose: For research tasks, instrument management, data collection and other lab-intensive applications. 

    If you need laboratory-related equipment outside SDU's physical framework, you are welcome to contact SDU IT to clarify the possibilities. Contact us as early as possible in the project process. Early collaboration makes it possible to find the most suitable solution in terms of functionality, security, operation and integration.

  • Used IT equipment

    When IT equipment is no longer needed, SDU IT ensures sustainable and secure handling. This is how we do it:

    • Collect and dispatch: All returned equipment is collected by SDU IT and sent to an external, certified supplier for further handling.

    • Reuse equipment: Data is erased according to applicable security standards and any SDU labelling is removed, after which the equipment can be reused.

    • Environmentally sound scrapping: Equipment that cannot be reused (defective, worn out, etc.) is separated into material fractions to maximise recycling.

    Do you have IT equipment that you no longer use?

    Hand in your used IT equipment at the nearest Service Desk. If you have accumulated a small stock locally, SDU IT can help with coordinated collection/handling.

    
    

  
  
• Password and security

  Change your password

  If you have been asked to change your password or can no longer remember it, you can change it yourself via:
  password.sdu.dk

  When you change your password, it must fulfil SDU's requirements for a secure password. The requirements are displayed on the page when you complete the change. SDU IT continuously performs password checks in the organisation to strengthen IT security.

  If you experience problems changing your password, you can create a support case or get help at the physical desks on your local campus.

• Server solutions, domains and web hosting

  • Server solutions

    SDU IT offers several types of server solutions that can support research projects, teaching environments, special data security requirements and application needs. The server solutions are operationally monitored and secured by SDU IT.
    
    If there is a need for customisation, additional resources or special configuration, this can be assessed and agreed individually.

    • Researcher server

      A researcher server can be made available to researchers with a relevant purpose.
      
      SDU IT provides a virtual server (Windows Server or Linux), installs the operating system and provides access via RDP or SSH from SDU's network. We maintain the server's OS, security and monitoring, while the researchers handle the installation and operation of their own applications.
      

      Typical use: Research projects, data analysis, applications that cannot run on a standard work computer.

    • Licence server

      A licence server is used to make software licences available across client machines at SDU, for example software that requires central licence management.
      
      SDU IT operates and hosts the licence server, while the associated software licence must be acquired in advance (e.g. by department, faculty or project).

    • S4 server (SDU Super Secure Server)

      The S4 server is a restricted and secured project environment for processing GDPR-protected data and research data. Only people associated with the project and with an SDU account can gain access. The project must have a start and end date, and the server is shut down after the project has ended.

      Important before ordering

      The project must be registered with SDU RIO and NextCloud must be used for data exchange. Only approved programmes can be installed.

    • Virtual machine (VM)

      A virtual machine can be used when there is a need for server software, computing or teaching environments - especially suitable for teaching environments where students need to work in a shared system environment.
      
      The VM can be hosted on-premises or in the Azure Cloud and accessed either via VPN or via Azure with an SDU account.

  • Domain names

    SDU generally uses the domain sdu.dk for websites and email addresses.
    
    For research projects or special needs, a domain can be created:

    • projektnavn.sdu.dk (recommended)
    • projektnavn.dk (possible if external profiling is needed)

    SDU IT handles the purchase and DNS administration of domain names.

    E-mail: E-mail addresses can only be created at @sdu.dk. For projects, projektnavn@sdu.dk is recommended.

  • Web hosts

    SDU IT offers hosting of websites for employees and entities with SDU related content. The service is not offered to students.
    
    All websites on the webhotel are protected by SDU's Web Application Firewall.

    We offer hosting of:

    • Static HTML website
    • WordPress site (installation and continuous platform updates are supported)
    • PHP-based dynamic websites - with MySQL access option (WordPress cannot be self-installed on this type of site)

• Software

  SDU has campus agreements on a number of programmes that can be used by employees - and in many cases also students.
  
  Standard software for SDU owned computers can be installed via the Software Centre. Some programmes can also be installed on private computers or equipment owned by business partners.
