Rules for barbecuing
The following rules apply to the use of barbecues on the campuses in Odense, Kolding, Esbjerg and Sønderborg:
- Barbecues must always be placed at least 5 metres away from buildings and other flammable materials.
- Barbecues must be positioned so that odours and smoke do not cause a nuisance in nearby buildings. Please be aware of open doors and windows, as well as ventilation intakes.
- Place the barbecue on a non-flammable surface, and not directly on lawns or tables.
- Only charcoal or briquettes may be used in solid-fuel barbecues.
- Only barbecue lighters or firelighters should be used for lighting the barbecue. The use of flammable liquids is not permitted.
- Only gas cylinders weighing up to 11 kg may be used with gas barbecues.
- Water must always be available for extinguishing the fire before the barbecue is lit.
- Do not leave the barbecue unattended until it has been switched off and fully extinguished.
- Any burn bans in force must also be followed.
As a general rule, barbecuing is not permitted on the Slagelse and Copenhagen campuses.
Barbecue areas and barbecue hire
On the Odense campus, barbecuing is only permitted in designated barbecue areas.

Each of the three designated barbecue areas by the TEK building has a permanent barbecue for staff use, free of charge. The three barbecues cannot be booked.
Furthermore, it is not possible to borrow a barbecue, so you will need to bring your own if you wish to use one of the remaining barbecue areas.
At the Esbjerg campus, the Friday Bar has a built-in barbecue. Anyone is welcome to use the barbecue. It is available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be booked.
You may use your own barbecue, provided that you comply with the applicable regulations on the use of barbecues.
At the Kolding campus, it is not possible to borrow a barbecue, and there are no designated barbecue areas.
You may use your own barbecue, provided that the applicable rules regarding the use of barbecues are observed.
At the Sønderborg campus, the Friday Bar has a built-in barbecue. Anyone is welcome to use the barbecue. It is available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be booked.
