It can be overwhelming and feel a little daunting to start a new education programme, perhaps even more so when it involves moving to a new city. But it won’t take you long to settle in.

Study Start is crammed with both academic and social activities, which the experienced student tutors will guide you through. Take part in everything you can – it will give you a good foundation for student life, and the relationships you establish during Study Start will see you through the rest of your studies and perhaps also further in your career – and life.

In Kolding, Study Start is organised across all fields of study, with academic and social activities firmly in focus. And the study start festival ‘Kontur’ is a great way to meet fellow students, create networks and get your student life off to a flying start. The festival extends over two days and brings together students from all of the higher education institutions in Kolding.

Daily life and the demands of studying at university are different from what you are used to. The academic level is high, everything is new and your fellow students are talented. But so are you, and you are studying precisely what you find most exciting, so it won’t take you long to settle in.

Teaching methods

At university, you will encounter different forms of teaching and working, including lectures, classroom teaching, group work and projects.
Being a student is a full-time job, and even if not every hour in your weekly timetable is allocated to classes, you should expect to spend at least as many hours on self-study and preparation.

From school pupil to student

At university, you are not a school pupil, and you are not given homework. Here, you are a student, and you attend classes and lectures. You are responsible for your own learning, and it takes self-discipline to find the balance between lectures, group work and self-study with an extensive and complicated exam syllabus.

You can get loads of guidance and good advice on study techniques and much more via the University Library of Southern Denmark.
