Background

Introduction to SDU's educational quality work

SDU’s quality system sets the framework for ensuring high quality across all the university’s programmes. On this page, you will find introductory material on working with educational quality.

“High-quality study programmes and teaching are crucial for ensuring that graduates from SDU can enrich the world with knowledge and competences.”

- Helle Waagepetersen, Pro-Rector

  • Quality can be measured and understood in many different ways. It may involve that stakeholders has to relate to a number of explicit standards (such as key figures), it may involve following certain forms of good practice (such as using specific pedagogical approaches), or it may concern whether certain objectives or ideals are being realized (such as societal relevance, efficiency, or personal cultivation).

SDU’s quality system incorporates all these approaches in its work on quality.

  • The current SDU quality system has its origins prior to 2003, when the Danish University Act introduced the concept of “quality development” and delineated the distribution of responsibilities for internal quality assurance. This legislative change initiated a series of internal development processes at SDU, involving multiple rounds of adjustments, which over time have culminated in the quality system in place today.

The system is grounded in the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in European Higher Education.

  • Both staff and students are invited to participate in an e-learning course that introduces SDU’s overall quality assurance system. It takes approximately 45 minutes to complete in Itslearning.

Select the relevant course below and log in via your Office 365 profile or WAYF. After enrolment, the course will appear under ‘Courses’ in itslearning.
