Newsletter #29
Newsletter for lecturers at SUND
This newsletter focuses on students' declaration of AI use, the interpretation of plagiarism reports for written submissions, and changes to itslearning. It also introduces upcoming Team-Based Learning (TBL) courses and highlights an important point to be aware of when booking a series of meetings.
Students’ declaration of AI use in written assignments
SDU’s guidelines for declaring the use of AI in written assignments have proved too extensive. The accelerating development of AI calls for a much more focused and guiding set of guidelines. Work is therefore being carried out centrally and locally to formulate rules and guides that are easier both to comply with and to enforce in a meaningful way.
As inspiration, here is an example from the Medicine programme, where it has been decided that students must complete a targeted template as their AI declaration when submitting their master’s thesis. At the same time, the Study Board has made it clear to students that they are required to use the template to declare how they have used AI in their thesis.
The following is stated in the course description:
You may use AI as a support tool and sparring partner for preparation, such as idea generation, literature searches, clarification of concepts, understanding of theory and planning, as well as for structure, proofreading and feedback on your own written or oral presentations. AI may not be used to generate text or answers for you. You must follow SDU’s guidelines for the use of AI, take a critical approach to the AI you use and declare where and for what purpose AI has been used by using the template available in the Itslearning course room.
The template is free to use and may be adapted as needed. We recommend contacting your own programme management to coordinate across the subject elements of each programme.
The link to the template can be found on SUND Teach.
Watch or rewatch the webinar on SDU’s plagiarism tool, StrikePlagiarism
Learn how to interpret the plagiarism report by watching or rewatching the webinar on SDU’s plagiarism tool, StrikePlagiarism, here.
The webinar starts at 03:30 and lasts approximately 30 minutes.
StrikePlagiarism is a tool for plagiarism checking of exam assignments. It automatically compares assignments with internet sources, publisher material and previous submissions. All assignments in Digital Exam are checked, but it is the lecturer’s responsibility to review the plagiarism report and assess the result. As a minimum, the report must be reviewed in cases of a high overlap score or suspected plagiarism.
Guidance on the plagiarism system can be read here.
The Page resource in Itslearning has a new design
Itslearning is now combining the two tools Page and Note into one shared tool: Page. The update makes it easier to create and structure content in a more user-friendly way and across digital devices.
A Page is built from content blocks, such as text, files, images and polls, which can be arranged in different layouts. Accessibility is also being improved, including the option of read-aloud support through the new listening function.
All existing content will be transferred automatically, and the update will therefore make it easier to create clear, interactive and accessible content for your students.
To learn more about the update, you can read more here.
Would you also like to have more active students in your teaching?
The teaching method Team-Based Learning (TBL) can be used with both small and large classes – and there is growing interest in the distinctive question design that is at the heart of Team-Based Learning.
New TBL courses will therefore be held in Dialogen (M-0.60) at SUND:
- Monday, 31 August 2026, 12:30–15:30 – registration deadline: 24 August 2026
- Monday, 25 January 2027, 09:00–12:00 – registration deadline: 18 January 2027
In-person attendance is recommended, but online participation is possible.
A little more about the course: This course introduces Team-Based Learning (TBL) as a structured and active form of learning that strengthens collaboration, engagement and deep learning in teaching. The course will equip you and the other participants to plan and facilitate TBL sessions that are relevant to your courses. There will be a focus on how to facilitate learning processes and work strategically with questioning techniques that promote reflection and dialogue. The course is delivered in a TBL format, so you will also experience Team-Based Learning from a participant’s perspective.
Booking a room for a recurring meeting – all room bookings are rejected if there is just one conflict
When you book a room for a recurring meeting in Outlook, please note that if there is a conflict on just one of the requested dates, the entire recurring meeting will be rejected. It is therefore important that you check for any conflicts and make sure that all your room bookings have been accepted.
Meeting organisers on the conflicting dates will be shown and can be contacted to ask whether they might be able to move rooms, if it is essential that all meetings are held in the room you selected. If this is successful, you can make a new booking.
