Practical integration

Focus on practical integration in new Master’s degree programmes

Find inspiration on how to integrate practical experience into teaching on the new Master’s programmes, with specific examples and approaches from SDU.

By SDU RIO, 6/30/2026

In connection with the implementation of the new Master’s degree formats, the Council for Education at SDU has adopted framework documents for both professional Master’s degrees (EKA) and the new 75 ECTS programmes.

A recurring theme in the framework documents is that practice integration should play a clear and active role in teaching.

New content on practice integration on SDUnet

New content has therefore now been compiled on SDUnet, focusing on how teaching can be organised in line with the specific conditions that apply to the new Master’s degree formats. For master’s programmes for working professionals, the starting point is that students are in employment alongside their studies, and that their workplace experiences can be used as an integral part of the learning process.

For the 75 ECTS master's degree programmes, the aim is to incorporate practical experience in various ways within and around the programme to ensure that students engage with the wider world and gain experience in applying theory to practice before entering the world of work.

Among other things, the new content provides an overview of how lecturers can work systematically to incorporate practical experience into their teaching – for example, by taking the students’ specific work situations as a starting point, using practical problems, or creating modules where theory and experience are closely intertwined.

Be inspired by real-life teaching case studies

At the same time, a number of case studies have been added, illustrating different ways of integrating practical experience into teaching. The collection of case studies provides insight into specific approaches and can be used as inspiration for selecting and developing practical activities suited to individual subjects and study programmes.
