Strong interest in health programmes at the University of Southern Denmark
Interest in SDU’s health programmes remains high, with more than 5,400 applicants. At the same time, there has been notable growth in Esbjerg, where the new medical programme in particular is attracting many applicants.
Interest in studying at the University of Southern Denmark remains high. At this year’s quota 2 deadline, SDU received 18,587 applications – an increase of 11 per cent compared to last year.
Across the university’s faculties, the Faculty of Health Sciences continues to attract the highest number of applicants. This year, 5,432 people have applied to the faculty’s programmes. This represents a decrease of 9 per cent compared to last year, but the level is still higher than in both 2023 and 2024.
Head of Education and Secretariat, Merete Munk, is pleased with the continued strong interest in the faculty’s programmes.
- It is very encouraging to see how many people want to study a health programme with us. It shows that our programmes remain attractive and that many young people can see themselves working within the healthcare sector, says Merete Munk.
Significant growth in Esbjerg
At the same time, there has been significant growth at Campus Esbjerg. Here, the number of applications has increased by 87 per cent compared to last year. A large part of this growth is due to the new medical programme, which alone has received 857 applications.
Head of Campus in Esbjerg, Per Andersen, is pleased with the development.
- It is remarkable to see how many have applied to Esbjerg this year. The new medical programme has truly generated attention, and this is very positive for both the campus and the city.
Focus on specific programmes
Although interest in the health programmes overall remains high, there are also a few programmes where application numbers call for attention. This includes Sports and Health and Clinical Biomechanics, where applications so far are slightly below last year’s level.
Efforts to attract applicants will therefore continue.
- We are, of course, pleased with the overall strong interest, and we know that much can still change before the quota 1 deadline on 5 July, says Merete Munk.
