Psychological Work Environment: Strengthen Your Work Environment and Well-being

Staff members employed at SDU for more than 15 hours per week who experience work-related mental health challenges may, on an anonymous basis, make use of SDU’s agreement with Falck to access psychological counselling services.

Further information is available here

The union representative handles tasks related to pay and terms of employment, including salary negotiations, recruitment, warnings, and dismissals. The union representative is also involved in the psychological work environment and may work together with the health and safety representative to prevent and address work environment challenges.

The health and safety representative represents staff in occupational health and safety matters and is responsible for making management aware of work environment challenges, as well as cooperating with management to prevent and address such challenges. The health and safety representative can also advise on where to seek assistance if you are unsure whether your concern relates to the general work environment or to a personal matter.

If a specific personal conflict arises between two staff members, it should primarily be resolved by the immediate line manager.

If the conflict is between a staff member and the immediate line manager, the matter should be referred to the research group leader, the head of department/department management, or assistance should be sought from your union representative or trade union.

If, as a staff member, you have multiple workplaces (e.g. SDU and OUH), you should contact the workplace to which the work environment issue relates.

In cases of conflict between PhD students and their supervisor, it may be relevant to involve the PhD School for advice and assistance. The principal supervisor often also acts as the immediate line manager, and it may be necessary to involve the research group leader, the head of department, or the department’s management.

Contact the PhD School in the event of conflicts between PhD students and their supervisor.

The head of department/department management is not automatically informed by the PhD School – you must ensure that this party is involved in cooperation to resolve the conflict.

The Consultancy Team and the Occupational Health and Safety Team in SDU HR, Occupational Health and Safety and Development offer advice and prevention within the following areas:

  • Psychological work environment and well-being
  • Stress and workload
  • Conflicts and poor well-being
  • Psychological safety
  • Offensive behaviour
  • Sickness absence – prevention, management, and return to work

Where interventions are required in any of the above areas, SDU HR will either involve the relevant Health and Safety Group directly or refer the matter to the immediate line manager.
