Department of Regional Health Research

Summer greeting from Jakob Grauslund

Read this years summer greeting from Head of Department Jakob Grauslund.

Dear all

July is here, and we’re nearing the end of what has been an eventful research year, 2024–2025. And what a year it's been indeed! For me personally, it will especially be remembered as the year I had the pleasure—and the great responsibility—of taking on the leadership of IRS. I’ve been genuinely touched by the warm welcome from all of you, both on Campus and out in the local research environments. Thank you! It’s been a real pleasure meeting you, and I’m looking forward to many more great conversations after the summer break.

A particular summer highlight was 25 June, when I had the privilege of witnessing the first medical students from the Regional Medical Education programme take the physician’s oath – 21 talented graduates, now ready to take the next step. It’s hard not to feel proud of how far we’ve come, and there’s even more to look forward to with a full Bachelor’s programme and increased intake on the Master’s programme on the way. Our professional Master's programmes are also going strong, offering valuable clinical continuing education for the many skilled healthcare professionals working in our hospitals.

Thank you to everyone contributing through teaching and research insights – your efforts truly make a difference!

On the research front, we’re also in excellent shape: 1,480 publications in 2024 – a new record! And with 792 articles already published in the first half of 2025, we may well need to bring out the flags again before Christmas. Your work strengthens our regional healthcare system and firmly positions IRS both nationally and internationally.

After the summer, we’ll begin implementing the Health Reform, which brings psychiatry and somatic healthcare together – and the new Region East will soon become a reality too. At the same time, we’re strengthening our collaboration with municipalities and local stakeholders – something many of you are already actively engaged in. It’s going to be an important journey, and we’re taking it together. In line with this, the Department Council has decided to update our research strategy. We’ll get started straight after the summer break and aim to launch it as the champagne pops on New Year’s Eve. The strategy will reflect your realities and ambitions – with a focus on collaboration, sustainable funding and strong career paths – all with the goal of taking IRS to new heights.

And just one gentle reminder: truly take time off when you're on holiday. Your brain needs space to wander. Time off can spark new ideas, fresh perspectives and – most importantly – new energy. And trust me, the world (and your articles) will still be here in August.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer – enjoy it!

Best regards, Jakob
