Seats still available for Sustainable Development Goals Forum II

The follow-up to the first Sustainable Development Goals Forum from 2019 is just around the corner. On 1 October, SDU researchers will gather for an academic day, where the purpose is to create new research collaborations, networks and projects.

As a researcher, you will have the opportunity to meet colleagues across academic environments and discuss research topics when SDU arranges SDG Forum II.

When SDU’s work on the UN SDGs was launched a couple of years ago, it all started with an academic day called ‘Sustainable Development Goals Forum', where the participants were introduced to the work on the 17 SDGs. This year there will be a follow-up, where only researchers are invited.

According to Sebastian Mernild, Pro-Rector at SDU, this is because the university wants to give the researchers something extra in relation to the interdisciplinary work on the SDGs. Ultimately, it will be the collaboration of researchers that creates the knowledge base that will provide solutions to the global challenges.

- SDU has researchers and research environments of exceptional quality within the SDG fields. With this event, we want to provide a platform for collaboration. The event will seek to provide the participating researchers with new knowledge about their colleagues’ related research, inspiration for new interdisciplinary projects and, on the whole, a slightly shorter way to find new internal research partners.

- It’s essential that we expand and build the culture of interdisciplinarity if we are to meet our ambitions in the work on the SDGs, he says.

8 selected topics

After a common introduction by Professor Steen Rasmussen, the participants will be divided into 8 thematic tracks, which they have signed up for in advance. In these tracks, a person will be in charge of running a group discussion, which, in addition to highlighting the specific topic, will also create new networks across researchers.

Professor and Head of Centre Mette Præst Knudsen is in charge of the track called ‘Digitalisation, Automation and Innovation in Industrial Production’. According to her, an exciting programme awaits the participants.

- In my group, we will discuss how to handle the key challenges from a research perspective, including the digital transformation with new technologies for a sustainable development. We all know that green solutions are a way forward, but we know a little less about how to implement the new technologies. We will talk about this from several different backgrounds, and there will be ample opportunity to get inspired by and form relationships with other professional environments.
