In 2021, SDU will develop a new course for new heads of research (0-2 years of experience) who are responsible for other researchers’ academic development and the development of a research group or unit. The course provides an introduction to research management at SDU, inspiration and support to take on the role of head of research. The course will be in English.

LØFT is a network-based programme focusing on the development of research groups through research management. LØFT participants are driven by an ambition to increase their own research group’s research quality and external funding in practice. The initiatives in LØFT concern research activities and processes and not the research itself. The course takes place over 10 months with participation in 6 sessions of 4 hours each.

Examples of managerial work in LØFT include:

  • Decisions on common ambitious goals for research, including the selection of some research interests over others and the consequences of rejection
  • Decisions on increased collaboration across research groups, including prioritising collaborative relationships internally and externally and across disciplines
  • Decisions on increased specialisation of non-research skills, including mobilising resources from others and developing skills and abilities within the group itself

Read the information leaflet on LØFT

In a management group course, the participants will get inspiration for how they can work with the development of their own group or unit based on relevant research and literature in the field. The course is aimed at managers of employees or managers of managers who would like inspiration and tools to create a more well-functioning and effective group. It would also be ideal for the manager to bring other group members or his/her whole group.
