With a regular digital hygiene routine, you ensure that users always encounter relevant and accessible content.

Digital hygiene checklist

  • Go through your folders, pages, versions of pages and files. Remove what's no longer in use and create redirects so users don't encounter dead links. Removing old content on an ongoing basis makes navigation easier, improves the user experience and boosts your site's ranking in search engines.

  • Upload images and files in the right folders and use appropriate file sizes. Always add an alt text to make the content accessible to everyone. When the media library is organised, you save time, improve site searchability and make reusing materials easier.


  • Use Siteimprove to check pages for dead links and spelling errors, preferably once a month. Keeping your content error-free keeps your site looking professional, reduces user frustration and protects your site's visibility in Google.
  • Write short URLs without special characters, capitalisation or spaces. When URLs are short and descriptive, they are easy to read, understand and share - both for users and search engines.

  • Include relevant keywords in headlines and body copy. Give each page a clear H1 heading, a precise page title and a good meta description. When you work actively with keywords, your content will be easier to find in Google - without any extra marketing.

  • Use components as they are intended and avoid manual line breaks or styling. Also check how the site looks on mobile. Using components correctly will ensure a great mobile experience that both users and search engines will reward.
