Why does breast cancer often spread in obese women?
Every year, approx. 5,000 Danish women are diagnosed with breast cancer. Obesity makes the cancer cells more aggressive, so they spread to other parts of the body. This is the focus of Rasmus Siersbæk’s research and he hopes to be able to find better treatment methods for this disease.

Closing in on liver fibrosis: Detailing the fibrosis process at unprecedented resolution
Today, there is no effective way to treat liver fibrosis. In a new study, researchers from the University of Southern Denmark, SDU, present a new technology to investigate the cellular processes as they change during fibrosis development. Key findings are being validated in studies of human patients, paving the way for possible novel diagnostics and treatments.

R2-D2 from SDU set to give solar cells a mind of their own
Armed with a grant of DKK 6.1 million, Vincent Le Corre is to develop a “Device Doctor” –an autonomous system capable of diagnosing what limits a solar cell’s performance and recommending the best path to improvement. His ambition is to place Denmark at the forefront of one of the most promising solar technologies of the future.

The future of scaffolding is here
Together with the German scaffolding manufacturer PERI and several other European partners, researchers from SDU’s Centre for Large Structure Production (LSP) have developed a robot that can relieve scaffolders. The robot will be tested in real-life conditions over the next years.

Future solar energy is soft and woven into fibres. At least, that’s the vision of an international team of researchers and designers from Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands who have joined forces to integrate organic solar cells (OPV) directly into lightweight, flexible textiles. The result is a solar panel woven like fabric used to clad buildings.

On Monday 28 July, 4,415 applicants have been offered a student place at the University of Southern Denmark. Higher admission requirements mean that SDU offers 229 fewer places than in 2024.
