Festival of Research 2026

Experience SUND at the Festival of Research 2026

On Saturday 18 April, you can experience the Festival of Research at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense – where researchers from the Faculty of Health Sciences are ready with a programme full of knowledge, debate and activities for both children and adults.

By SUND Kommunikation, 3/26/2026

Here, you can explore everything from women’s health and fertility to artificial intelligence and the healthcare system of the future – or try your hand at research yourself, at eye level.

Learn more about women’s health

You can, for example, meet historian Gry Jexen, known from Kvinde Kend Din Historie, as she joins SDU researchers Christina Anne Vinter and Lea Skewes to take you on a historical deep dive into women’s health.

You will gain insight into how women’s bodies and diseases have been understood over time – and often overlooked – and what this means for the knowledge and treatments available today.

You can also explore the activity Kvindeliv, where more than 30 researchers in gynaecology and obstetrics guide you through women’s health from youth to old age and highlight the common thread in the research.

Take part in major societal debates

Should the state have a say in how many children we have? And can robots and artificial intelligence help safeguard the healthcare system of the future?

You can explore these questions in two topical debates with Clement Kjersgaard. Here, you will meet researchers who offer perspectives on the fertility crisis, the future workforce and the balance between the individual and society – as well as the opportunities and pitfalls of technology in healthcare.

You can also meet researchers from, among others, the Centre for Innovative Medical Technology, the Centre for Clinical Artificial Intelligence and the Centre for Clinical Robotics, who demonstrate how health technologies are developed, tested and implemented in practice – and what this means for patients and healthcare professionals.

Experience research first-hand

Would you like to try how research works in practice? There are plenty of opportunities.

You can, for example

  • hear a personal story about how a bicycle helmet can save lives – and learn how to encourage more children and young people to wear helmets
  • design your own cancer treatment and follow a patient’s journey through the healthcare system
  • have your hearing tested and learn how hearing is linked to overall health and dementia
  • explore the many functions of the liver or get up close to human anatomy – and hear how researchers work with the human body, even after death
  • meet forensic scientists and gain insight into their work and the cases they handle

You can also learn more about trauma, nicotine products aimed at children and young people – and ticks and the diseases they can transmit.

Bring the children

The Festival of Research is also for younger audiences. This year, you can bring children into a world of ball games, where play and movement take centre stage, and where researchers demonstrate how simple activities can strengthen motor skills and social interaction.

And if you are quick, you can still get a ticket for a show with Jonas Madsen, known from DR: https://event.sdu.dk/jonasmadsen

Get a glimpse of the future

You can also get close to the healthcare system of the future. Hear about the construction of the new OUH and join a guided tour of the hospital area by light rail.

At the same time, you can meet researchers working with robots and artificial intelligence and gain insight into what future treatments and patient pathways may look like.

You can also learn more about the role of communities and associations in health, quality of life and the welfare state, as researchers examine trends in volunteering in Denmark.

And that is just a selection of the activities involving researchers from the Faculty of Health Sciences. See the full programme with more than 60 activities here.

There is also the Festival of Research at SDU in Esbjerg, Kolding and Sønderborg.
