The PhD administrator at the department secretariat at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science handles all administrative tasks related to your employment as a PhD student.

Or put another way: The PhD School assists with everything related to enrollment, and the department with everything related to employment.

The PhD School’s secretariat handles the following tasks:

• Enrollment of PhD students.
• Study administration of the PhD program.
• Study administrative support and guidance for potential and current PhD students.
• Secretariat services for the Head of the PhD school and PhD committee.
• Case processing and follow-up on the PhD committee’s decisions.
• Initiation and follow-up on the PhD committee’s goals and strategies within the PhD area.
• Case processing related to PhD theses – including receipt and distribution of PhD theses.
• Issuance of PhD certificates.
• Ensuring the quality of elements in the PhD program, such as PhD courses and environmental changes.

The PhD study committee for the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science consists of 3 representatives from the academic staff and two PhD students. The members of the PhD study committee are appointed by the PhD committee upon recommendation from the head of the department.

The PhD study committee evaluates applicants in connection with the enrollment of PhD students. The PhD study committee can be consulted on significant academic matters, including individual cases, by the PhD committee and the Head of the PhD school.

The PhD committee at the Faculty of Science consists of representatives from the academic staff and representatives from the PhD students, who are elected by and among them.

The PhD committee:

• Nominates a chair from among the academic staff of the PhD committee and possibly a vice-chair from among the PhD students in the PhD committee to the dean.
• Approves PhD courses upon recommendation from the PhD study committee.
• Approves applications for credit and exemptions.
• Prepares proposals for the Head of the PhD school on internal guidelines and advice.
• Provides statements to the Head of the PhD school on the evaluation of the PhD program and PhD supervision.
• Provides statements on matters of significance for the PhD program and PhD supervision, which the dean or the person authorized by the dean presents.
• Recommends the composition of assessment committees for the evaluation of PhD theses to the dean.
