Copilot

Copilot chat is now available to all employees at SDU

SDU now makes the Copilot chatbot available to all employees at SDU. This is a good opportunity to test AI technology on your own tasks. However, users must be aware of the security limitations and pitfalls.

Copilot is Microsoft’s version of the better-known ChatGPT tool. It belongs to a type of technology called generative AI. Generative AI refers to a type of artificial intelligence that can create new content, such as text, code and images.

Copilot is built on the same language model as ChatGPT, combined with the latest information from the internet. When you communicate with Copilot, it can understand your context and you can refer to previous questions and answers in the same thread.

If you use SDU’s licence for Copilot, you will be in a closed environment where data is not harvested by other users. Therefore, it is important that you are logged in with your SDU account when you want to work in Copilot.

Guidance and beginner courses at your fingertips

You will find guidelines and help for using generative AI at SDU here. For example, you can use chatbots to get new ideas and perspectives on a topic, to draft or summarise texts, proofread and translate. They can help you with coding and formulas as well as structuring presentations. Read more about the use of chatbots in your administrative work here and specifically about SDU’s Copilot chatbot here.

In collaboration with SDU HR, SDU Digital is offering a number of beginner courses on Copilot. Find the courses here. More are on the way.

Be cautious

Personal data, confidential information and content copyrighted by others may not be shared in generative AI tools – including Copilot Chat. In addition, be aware of bias and false information inherited from the data the chatbot has been trained on.

It will be advantageous to engage in dialogue locally in the faculties, departments and central areas about how you can use and experiment with AI in the context of information security and data protection.

Why allow use of Copilot?

The deliberate use of artificial intelligence is still new to many people. SDU wishes to make it possible for all employees to explore how AI can be used in the workplace – and not least to clarify the specific limitations of the technology in terms of potential use scenarios.

With the Copilot Enterprise solution integrated into our existing Microsoft licence, we make it both safer and cheaper to use generative AI at SDU.

More on the way

Opening for the use of Copilot Chat is the first step towards profiting from the new technology. In 2024, we will be looking at AI solutions running in completely enclosed environments, where we can train the solutions on SDU data. In addition, we are closely following the options that accompany Copilot in Microsoft 365. This is both to ensure optimal value from the new opportunities and to ensure a balance between AI support costs and business gains.
