At least three qualified applicants for academic positions

Exceptions

The requirement of 3 qualified applicants for academic positions does not apply in the following circumstances:

  • positions with an employment rate of 20% or less
  • part-time positions/combination positions where the other party is a clinical unit or university college/vocational college
  • positions that are 100% teaching positions (e.g teaching assistant professors and teaching associate professors)

In the case of job advertisements in which two or more positions are advertised, only be three technically positively qualified applicants are required. There is thus no requirement that there must be six qualified applicants if, for example, two associate professors are advertised at the same time. Only a minimum of three qualified applicants are required.

Option to apply for exemption from the requirement of three qualified applicants for academic positions

It is possible to apply for exemption from the requirement for at least three qualified applicants after the first advertisement.

Dispensation is granted based on an overall assessment of five criteria, not all of which need to be met.

The criteria are:

  1. Has the position been advertised as broadly academically as is possible within the existing framework, so that a broad range of expertise within the subject fields has been able to apply (and has in fact applied)?
  2. Has the position been advertised internationally and attracted a number of international applicants from different countries?
  3. Has the position attracted the required three applicants, but not all have been qualified?
  4. Has the position been re-advertised without it being possible to attract the required number of applicants?
  5. Do(es) the qualified applicant(s) have a high, international level?
