Competency workshop and case

A three-lesson workshop with the Danish Gambling Authority’s communications unit gave master’s students in Danish Studies hands-on experience in identifying and applying their academic competencies in a real organisational context.

Brief overview

Programme  Danish Studies
Level Master
Course  Theory and Methods in Danish Studies
Duration  3 lessons
Format  Competency workshop with company presentation and case work     External partner  The Danish Gambling Authority’s Communications and Press Department
Participants  Danish students

The activity consisted of a combined competency workshop and case work in the course Theory and Methods in Danish Studies in the master’s programme in Danish Studies. The programme spanned three lessons and was carried out with the participation of Danish students.

The programme was structured into three parts:

1. Warm-up: The students worked on identifying the competencies they have gained through their studies and how these can be applied in practice.

2. Visit from the Danish Gambling Authority’s Communications and Press Department:

  • Introductory presentation on the organisation’s work.
  • Presentation of a case.
  • Case work in two stages:
    1. Identification of relevant subject-specific competencies from Danish Studies.
    2. Brainstorming possible overarching solution proposals.

3. Wrap-up: Finally, the day’s exercises were reviewed, and the students discussed how the insights gained can be used in their further study and career pathways.

What is the Danish Gambling Authority?

The Danish Gambling Authority is an agency under the Danish Ministry of Taxation that ensures a regulated and fair gambling market in Denmark and protects players against illegal gambling.

When the Danish Gambling Authority participates in a teaching programme, it strengthens its information and prevention efforts and reaches new target groups through dialogue.

Engaging with students also provides valuable insights into young people’s perspectives, which can support the Authority’s work with communication about responsible and regulated gambling.
