Purpose and use
The purpose of the professor promotion programme is to provide talented associate professors with the opportunity to become professors through a structured qualification process followed by internal assessment.
The programme can run for up to eight years, and you can find SDU's general guidelines for promotion to professor here.
During the qualification period, the associate professor is expected to develop competencies across a range of areas listed below. In the application, the associate professor should demonstrate—based on their career so far—the potential to acquire the necessary competencies during the qualification period. The application should also outline the activities and milestones that will support this development.
All application material must be submitted in English to support the appointment of a review committee.
The promotion plan
The promotion programme is open to both current associate professors and newly appointed staff in associate professorships that include a built-in promotion track.
When applying for admission to the programme, both groups should describe their potential for development in relation to the responsibilities of a professorship and present a plan for how this development will take place during the qualification period.
The promotion plan serves as the basis for ongoing dialogue, at least once a year, and may be discussed during performance and development reviews (MUS).
Application
Already an associate professor
If you are interested in being considered for the promotion programme, it is recommended that you contact your personnel manager to discuss enrolment in the programme. The application process includes completing an application form including a timetable.
The form should be submitted to the head of department along with your CV, list of publications and teaching portfolio. After submission, you will be invited to a dialogue with the department management to discuss potential enrolment in the programme. Applying for an associate professorship with built-in promotion programme
If you are applying for an associate professorship that includes the promotion track, you must complete the application form and the schedule, and attach them to your full application for the associate professorship.
