Legal and GDPR related data issues

Register your research

If you are employed at SDU and process personal information in connection with your research project, you must register the project on SDU's list of projects before you start collecting personal information.

Working with sensitive data and GDPR issues

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the toughest privacy and security law in the world. Though it was drafted and passed by the European Union (EU), it imposes obligations onto organizations anywhere, so long as they target or collect data related to people in the EU.

Katrine Hass Rubin of  at SDU SUND explains the essentials of good and responsible handling of personal data in this video (Danish only):

Read more about how SDU processes personal data as well as your rights, if SDU is registering your information, here.

If a software tool stores personal data externally to SDU, you can only use the tool, if SDU has a data processing agreement with the company that sells the tool. If in doubt, contact SDU RIO here.

SDU data protection officer

SDU employs a data protection officer (DPO) who advises employees and students about legislation and rules for data protection. You can contact SDU’s data protection officer, Simon Kamber, directly at dpo@sdu.dk.

Are you a researcher at SDU and do you need legal advice regarding data or the processing of personal data?

The lawyers at SDU RIO offer advice in connection with negotiating contracts. If you are a researcher and enter into cooperation with a company or other external partner, SDU is subject to a number of legal obligations.

It is important that you involve SDU RIO as early as possible in the process. It is important that we establish the legal framework and clarify the expectations of the parties involved before commencing any cooperation - only in this way can we ensure optimal cooperation.
