Summer column

Summer has now hit us with full force, and in the coming weeks the campuses will be filled with happy and proud graduates as the holidays draw near. For many of you, this will hopefully mean a little more breathing space in your diaries and time for things other than work.

When we return after the holidays, we’ll also be at the start of a new chapter in our shared history. With the study start in September, SDU Business School will become an independent unit, and we’ll therefore also have a new framework for a new SAMF.

It is a unique situation to find ourselves in: on the one hand, we are continuing our work as a single Faculty of Social Sciences throughout the summer; on the other, we are in the midst of preparing for what lies ahead, with new activities and initiatives. Among other things, we are working on a strategic process for the new SAMF, in which we are developing a shared narrative about who we are and what we want to achieve, whilst SDU Business School is settling into its new organisational structure.

Now that we are split into two, it is important that we each stand strong without letting go of what we have in common. It is a balance. We must maintain our good cooperation and capitalise on our shared interests, but at the same time, the aim is to have two strong faculties.

It is essential that our shared foundation provides us with excellent opportunities to continue our collaboration in selected areas even after 1 September. We can do this because we come from a shared background, and both management and staff have worked closely together. Among other things, we share a strong interest in making an impact and putting our research to good use, just as we have important joint initiatives within the PhD School and talent development, including Talent Track.

In some areas, we will also remain closely linked, for example through the administrative support provided by the administration centre and through the social communities that are already an important part of our daily lives, such as our start of semester event.

Summer is now upon us, and I look forward to seeing you all again after the holidays to embrace all the new developments that lie ahead.

Best, Hanne
