Faculty of Business and Social Sciences

Gender Equality Council

The Faculty of Business and Social Sciences at SDU has a vision of attracting and retaining the top portion of the entire talent pool among the Faculty’s academic and administrative staff. Among other things, this will be done by continuing to work purposefully to ensure equal opportunities and conditions for men and women at the Faculty.

The goal of the Gender Equality Committee’s work is to support the Faculty in achieving and ensuring this.

The overall visions for gender equality work are:

  • To bring the entire talent mass into play
  • To ensure there are role models in research, teaching, knowledge exchange and administration
  • To ensure transparency, equal opportunities and equal treatment for all during the filling of positions, employment and in connection with career development
  • To ensure a working environment with room for diversity

Organisation and work of the Gender Equality Committee

The Gender Equality Committee is an advisory committee established by the Dean. The faculty administration as well as each department and any relevant centres at the Faculty are represented each with one member. In addition, the Dean appoints a chair for the Committee.

Among other things, the committee will examine where gender equality barriers arise and propose motivating initiatives that the Faculty and its individual units can put in place to create a greater balance in gender distribution. In addition, the Committee administers the Faculty’s pool for equality funding.

The Gender Equality Committee mainly focuses on gender equality, but may also focus on broader diversity issues.

The Committee’s work takes place in close interaction with the individual departments and units at the Faculty, SDU’s Central Gender Equality Committee and SDU’s Gender Equality Team based on the University’s overall Gender Equality Plan.

The Committee holds around four meetings per year.
