Performance and Development Review

The performance and development review (in Danish: ‘MUS’ medarbejderudviklingssamtalen) is an annual, recurring performance and development interview between manager and employee. MUS is based on the employee’s day-to-day work and gives the manager and the employee the opportunity to have a more in-depth dialogue and matching of expectations about goals, tasks, well-being, collaborative relationships and professional and personal development.

MUS is held once a year in the period from March to May for all employees of the Faculty who work at least 15 hours per week, and the interview typically lasts for 60-90 minutes. During the confidential interview between you and your line manager, a skills plan is drawn up in which goals are set for the individual employee’s development, and specific activities are agreed to this end. The plan details who is to do what in relation to what has been agreed in the MUS.

See more about task distribution here.

MUS does not replace the daily dialogue about task solving and well-being and should not be seen as a discussion about salary or other issues.

As a starting point, MUS for VIP (academic staff) is conducted with the head of research group (FGL), if such a position exists at the department or centre. At the request of either the FGL or the employee, the head of department can participate in the MUS. Similarly, the employee has the right to request a MUS interview with the head of department if there is a desire for this. MUS for TAP (administrative staff) is conducted with the line manager.

At the beginning of 2023, the Executive Board and HSU (Central Liaison Committee) adopted a common concept for employee interviews across all of SDU.
