This FAQ answers the most common questions from lecturers, course coordinators, study board members and heads of programme about SDU's course evaluation system
If you cannot find the answer to your question, please contact support at digieval@sam.sdu.dk.
Access and Permissions
Access and Permissions
You can access the system via: https://eval.sdu.dk/
If you are off campus and accessing the system remotely, you must be connected to the SDU network via VPN.
If you are connected to the SDU network (either on campus or via VPN) and still cannot access the system, please contact the SDU IT Helpdesk.
How do I obtain access to the evaluation system?
Access to the evaluation system is assigned automatically based on the roles and teaching assignments registered in SDU's administrative systems (ODIN). If you are registered as a teacher on a course, you will normally be granted access automatically to evaluations relating to your own course(s).
If you do not have access, first check the course description to ensure that you are correctly registered as a teacher or Course Responsible. If the registration is correct but you still cannot gain access, please contact support.
Can others be granted access to an evaluation?
Access is generally not assigned manually. The system is based on the roles and functions registered in the course description and in ODIN.
If a colleague requires access to a specific evaluation, please contact support.
Why can't I see an evaluation?
Head of Study / Programme Director
When you take on a new role, particularly as a Head of Study or Programme Director, it may take some time before permissions are updated across all systems. The evaluation system retrieves information on roles and responsibilities from SDU's administrative master data.
If you cannot see evaluations for the programme for which you are responsible, please contact support. If you cannot see evaluations for the course(s) for which you are registered as a teacher or Course Responsible, first verify in the course description that you are correctly listed. If there are errors in the course description, they can be corrected through Academic Support in Education Administration. If everything is correctly registered and you still cannot see the course(s), please contact support.
Course Responsible
As a rule, Course Responsibles can only view an individual evaluation once the evaluation period has ended.
If you are the Course Responsible for a course but cannot see it in your overview, there may be several reasons.
The evaluation may not yet have started; the evaluation may not yet have ended; or you may not be correctly registered in the course description. Please verify your registration and contact Academic Support in Education Administration if corrections are required.
Another possible reason is that the course has very few students. Due to the confidentiality threshold of five respondents, courses with fewer than five students are normally not evaluated.
Finally, ensure that you are searching within the correct period. Select the relevant period (e.g. Spring 2026) in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
If everything is correct and you still cannot see your course, please contact support.
Teacher
If you teach a course but cannot see it in your overview, there may be several reasons.
The evaluation may not yet have started, or you may not be correctly registered in the course description. Verify your registration and contact Academic Support in Education Administration if corrections are required.

Why am I receiving emails about an evaluation that does not concern me?
This is most likely caused by an error in the course description.
Access to evaluations is assigned automatically based on the roles and teaching assignments registered in the course description and in ODIN. Once an evaluation opens, these roles are imported into the evaluation system and can no longer be changed.
Please ensure that any errors in the course description are corrected before the evaluation opens.
Evaluations
Which types of activities are evaluated?
All educational elements are evaluated systematically after each offering. This includes all elements covered by a curriculum, including teaching activities (courses and modules), supervision-based activities (including bachelor's projects and master's theses as well as project-oriented and company-based projects), mandatory study abroad periods, and internships.
How are evaluations conducted?
Evaluations are conducted through SDU's digital evaluation system: https://eval.sdu.dk. All evaluations follow faculty-approved question frameworks.
Prior to each evaluation round, teachers receive information about the upcoming evaluation and are given the opportunity to request adjustments to the evaluation period.
All teachers registered on a course receive an email from the evaluation system when the evaluation opens and when it closes. During the evaluation period, the system also sends reminders containing information about the current response rate.
Similarly, students receive an email with a link to their personal overview of open evaluations on the day that one or more of their course evaluations opens.
After the evaluation period has ended, the teacher(s) must review the results and provide comments, including any suggestions for changes to the course arising from the evaluation. The evaluation is subsequently reviewed by the relevant Study Board as part of the quality assurance process for courses and programmes.
Evaluation activities are supported by the Faculty's unit for Digitalisation, Quality and Learning. Questions may be directed to digieval@sam.sdu.dk.
When are courses evaluated?
Semester-based courses are typically evaluated in May and November, while quarter-based courses (Esbjerg only) are evaluated at the end of each quarter.
Supervision-based activities are typically evaluated in June and January, while internships on the BA in Journalism programme are typically evaluated in September.
The specific evaluation periods are communicated to teachers by email at the beginning of each semester, together with a request to notify the evaluation team if special arrangements are required for a particular course.
When are summer courses evaluated?
Summer courses are normally evaluated immediately after teaching concludes.
As summer courses often follow different teaching schedules, evaluation periods are determined individually. Teachers are therefore typically contacted in advance and given the opportunity to request changes.
How do I change the evaluation period for a course?
If the start or end date of an evaluation needs to be changed, the evaluation period can be adjusted administratively.
Please provide:
Course title
Course code (UVA)
Current evaluation period
Requested evaluation period
Reason for the change
Comments on Evaluations
Why do I need to comment on the evaluation results?
After the evaluation period has ended, teachers are expected to review the results and provide comments.
The purpose is not merely to reflect on the results, but also to provide input to Course Responsibles and Study Boards on how the course can be improved. Your comments therefore form an important part of the quality assurance process.
Students are generally more motivated to participate when they can see that their feedback is read and actively used.
How do I comment on evaluation results?
After the evaluation period has ended, you will receive an email containing a link to the evaluation report.
At the bottom of the report, you will find a field in which you must enter your comments.
If several teachers are associated with the course, each teacher must submit their own comments.
Where can I find the comment field?
The comment field is located at the bottom of the evaluation report.
If you cannot see the field, the commenting deadline has most likely passed. In that case, please contact support to have the commenting period reopened.
What should a good teacher comment include?
A good comment should include:
A brief assessment of the results
Recognition of significant strengths
Reflection on any challenges
A description of planned improvements
Example:
“Students generally evaluate the course positively. However, several students have requested clearer instructions for written assignments. This will be addressed the next time the course is offered by providing additional examples and guidance materials.“
When must comments be submitted?
After the evaluation period has ended, you normally have 30 days to submit your comments.
Once the deadline has passed, the evaluation is closed and released to the Study Board and the Course Responsible.
If reopening is required, for example because comments were not submitted, please contact support.
It is recommended that comments be submitted as soon as possible while the course is still fresh in memory.
Can the commenting deadline be extended?
Yes. If you are unable to submit your comments before the deadline, support can reopen the commenting period.
We are several teachers on the same course. Can we see each other's comments?
Yes, but you cannot edit comments submitted by other teachers.
Evaluation Reports and Results
Where can I find evaluation reports?
When you access the system via https://eval.sdu.dk/, you will see an overview of evaluations for the courses to which you have access.
Click the magnifying-glass icon next to the relevant course to view the evaluation report.
To view reports from previous semesters, select the desired period (e.g. Autumn 2025) in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
What is the confidentiality threshold?
The confidentiality threshold is intended to ensure that individual respondents cannot be identified through their answers.
Where very few students have completed the questionnaire, there may be a risk that comments or ratings can be linked to individuals. Results are therefore only displayed once the minimum number of responses has been reached.
What do the scores displayed in the evaluation overview mean?
Within each question framework, a number of key questions are used to calculate the overall score of the evaluation. Three indicators are displayed:
Score: The result for the individual course.
SB (Study Board): The deviation from the average score of courses offered under the same Study Board and evaluated using the same question framework. Normally, this average will be identical across semester-based and quarter-based courses within the Study Board, as they use the same framework. Please note that courses with and without exercise classes are evaluated using separate templates.
Faculty: The deviation from the average score of faculty courses evaluated using the same question framework. Normally, this average will be identical across semester-based and quarter-based courses within the faculty, as they use the same framework. Please note that courses with and without exercise classes are evaluated using separate templates.
report or PDF
No.
Once you have submitted your comments in the evaluation system, both the results and your comments automatically become available to the Study Board as part of its review process.
Can evaluations with few responses be merged?
In certain cases, evaluations can be merged in the system to achieve enough responses. This can only take place after all relevant evaluations have closed.
This is typically relevant for jointly taught courses.
Please contact support if evaluations need to be merged.
Can results be shown even if the confidentiality threshold has not been reached?
Generally, no.
In exceptional circumstances, a specific assessment may be made. However, protection of student anonymity is given very high priority.
Response Rates
What is a good response rate?
There is no single fixed threshold, but as a general guideline:
Below 20%: Results should be interpreted with caution.
20-50%: Acceptable data basis.
Above 50%: Strong data basis.
The objective should be to maximise participation so that the evaluation reflects the experiences of the entire class.
Can I monitor the response rate while the evaluation is open?
Yes.
Teachers can monitor response rates continuously in the evaluation system and receive status emails during the evaluation period.
How can I improve response rates?
Experience shows that the following measures are most effective:
Inform students about the evaluation early.
Explain why their feedback is important.
Allocate time during teaching sessions for students to complete the questionnaire.
Demonstrate concrete examples of improvements previously implemented based on evaluations.
Send friendly reminders before the evaluation closes.
The more clearly students can see the connection between their feedback and improvements to teaching, the higher participation rates are likely to be.
Issues Reported by Students
Where can students find their personal evaluation overview?
Students can access their open evaluations via: https://eval.sdu.dk/
If students cannot see open evaluations on this page, several explanations are possible:
The evaluation has not yet opened.
The evaluation has already closed.
The student is not correctly registered for the course in the administrative systems.
Students report that they cannot find or complete the evaluation. What should I do?
If students cannot find the evaluation, possible reasons include:
The evaluation has not yet opened.
The evaluation has already closed.
The student is not correctly registered for the course in the administrative systems.
A technical issue occurred during distribution.
Ask students to check their personal evaluation overview and contact support if the problem persists.
A student is enrolled in the course but does not appear in the evaluation. What should I do?
The evaluation system retrieves participant information from SDU's administrative systems when the evaluation is created.
If a student was not correctly registered at that time, they will not be included among the respondents.
Please contact Education Administration to verify the registration.
