Requirements for secondary employment permits for students from non-EU/EEA countries

Students (including Phd students) at a university are permitted to work 20 hours per week and full-time during the months of June, July and August.

The same applies during the job-seeking period after graduation. The student's residence card will state whether they are entitled to work.

Please note that if the residence permit was issued before 1 January 2015, the student may only work 15 hours per week and full-time during the months of June, July and August.

If the student work illegally, e.g. works more than the number of hours allowed by the permit, the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration may revoke or refuse to extend the residence permit. This applies even if the student otherwise meets the requirements for their residence permit, e.g. is actively  engaged in study programme. SDU HR now asks that students from non-EU/EEA countries submit a copy of their residence card as documentation that they are permitted to work.
